how does your garden grow?

Mine grows best when we have a lot of weather... not lots of one kind, but a lot of variety. You see I get rather lazy about watering my plants - so if it's just sunny they all wilt (and if it's just wet they generally drown). The good news is that as of last night we started having lots of weather here - the sun shone in the day and then it rained overnight, and now it's sunny again. Perfect.

Of course, other people have other ideas about how to tend to their plants. There are green house people (who shelter their plants from the rain so that they permanently wilt from lack of water... or have I missed the point there?), and there is Swansea Council.

Every morning for the past few weeks, as I have walked along the pavement to work, I have got wet. There's a nice man employed by the council who goes along with a rigid hose watering the hanging baskets that line the shop fronts in our city. He waters them until the water starts flowing out of the bottom of the baskets so that it rains on everyone who dares to walk under them. This morning I met him trying to water already soaking baskets... did he not notice the rain when he started work, or do the council have some strange policy that states piped water is better than the stuff that falls directly out of the sky?
