restful...

In a vain attempt to have a break from the wallpaper stripping, Wood & I went away for the weekend. We went to see my parents on their canal boat.

The only problem is that they're still building it.

SO forget restful days chugging along a peaceful canal in the sun, and imagine fitting a kitchen in a frezzing cold tin can which, due to the piles of tool boxes, timber, etc. lying around, doesn't have room to swing a cat. Not that I can see why anyone would want room to swing a cat. It's going to be a very nice boat when it's finished, with central heating and comfy sofas and a fully fitted kitchen with a oven that you could, according to my dad, roast a small turkey in. If you happened to want to spend christmas on the canal and cook roast turkey. Personally I'd opt for stopping for a three course meal in a canal-side pub. But the boat's not finished yet; the windows and doors are in, the internal walls are in, there's even a wood/coal burning stove at one end of the boat. But that's no good if the kitchen you're fitting is at the other end, and the camping stove you're using to supply the much needed cups of tea starts leaking gas, and you have to open all the windows and doors to avoid blowing the boat up, and it ends up so cold inside that you can see your breath, and when you move the camping stove outside the kettle won't boil at all because it's so cold that the kettle looses more heat than it gains from the gas flame...
But somehow we managed and the kitchen is mostly done, and very soon the proper hob and oven will be connected and we can have proper cups of tea when we next head north for a 'restful' weekend on the narrowboat.
