OK I admit it. I was wrong.
For sometime now my friends have complained that the whole of our city council was incompetent, whilst I have honourably defended the few poor souls who find themselves working within the flawed system but are not themselves stupid.
However, today I discovered that there is not a single brain-cell blessed person in the entire council...
I sent an e-mail to a particular council department to make a perfectly reasonable enquiry (about the disposal of asbestos). I sent the e-mail from my work address: Tracy.Ingham@... and I signed the e-mail in my usual business-like fashion:

To the ordinary man on the web there would be no confusion as to my gender nor, in fact, my marrital status.
BUT
I was quite clearly not dealing with an ordinary man. I was dealing with a stupid person... the reply started:

Well, at least they got my surname correct, perhaps that shows some degree of intelligence. One can hope....
