And now the lights have stopped working

Nobody else seems particularly bothered but I have to say that these building contractors are rather annoying...

My company rents the top 2 floors of a 6 storey building in town. I work on the top floor. The landlord is currently carrying out building work. For the past 2 years the lift has only worked up to the 4th floor... fixing it appears to involve it not working at all.

Yesterday us ladies were informed that work was going to be carried out on our toliets. Going to the loo now involves going to reception and asking for a key, walking down to the 3rd floor to use alternative facilities, then returning the key to reception before returning to my desk. Dispite the alternative facilities containing 3 loos, there is only one key... yesterday I miss-timed my toliet trip and had to wait at reception for another woman to return the key. I felt like a 5 year old.

This morning I mentally braced myself for the day... 6 fights of stairs up at the start of the day, 6 down and up at lunchtime, and 6 down at the end. If I want to go to the kitchen and make a cup of tea it'll involve 1 flight up and down everytime, but that'll usually also lead to 2 up and down to use the loo... it's managable if I don't drink too much tea.

SO I arrive at the top of the stairs, the lights in reception are on but the rest of the floor is in darkness... I check the switches... they're on. The building work has effected the lighting circuits. It's OK for the people by the windows, but I sit in the centre of the huge open plan office. I can see my computer screen but not much else.

I think that it's going to be a long day.
