Reading this Times article has been interesting.

Firstly, like the term "Chelsea Tractor" for a 4x4.

Secondly, on a more sensible tone, think that they have a point about pushy parents and how unacceptable it is for parents to tape parents evening chats, etc for later use if the student doesn't achieve. Also think they have a point about the differences between schools and rural ghettos, but also think we need to be careful of just blaming it on "out of school factors".

At the end of the day a major cause of failure is low of attendance and lack of effort. In the mist of all the arguments why is it nobody seems to be trying to say that sometimes it's not down to teachers, parents, governments or environmental factors but the students themselves.

That's not to say that these other things don't come in to it, but shock horror some kids just don't try however hard teachers, parents and others try. At the end of the day there comes a time when we need to let them take responsibility for their own failiure.
