What happens when the following are added together:
1. A disconnection with those who are supposed to represent us
2. A distrust of our leaders and of others
3. A media which perpetuates a myth of a golden age and of a "British" identity
4. A culture of fear based upon a distrust of the other and what they have the potential to do
5. A materialistic society which we are all offered, but then some are told is not actually available to them
6. An increasingly desperate underclass
7. A society where cynicism and apathy are the order of the day

Answer: You get a void which will need to be filled by something. You get this result.

Yes I know it is predominantly in one area; I know it is local elections, but it is dangerous and unfortunately is likely to result in a knee jerk reaction to the right by mainstream politicians , whilst they give lip service to disowning the underlying ideas of the far right. It is also likely to lead to a further acceptance of scapegoating and increase of fear in society.

Political correctness is not the answer, but a serious acceptance by politicians and the media of the points above and attempt to tackle them, rather than increasing them is. Yes I know I'm being idealistic but ..........
