According to this BBC article it looks like 2012 is going to be another point of change. This time it's the uni application system that they want to change.
Now, whilst I acknowledge it isn't perfect the current system does work reasonably. Hope that whatever changes they do implement continue to take the student, their stengths and their aspirations into account and not just their qualifications. Now I'm not saying that you should allow students who are not suited to the academic rigours of a course into an inappropriate institution, but I am saying sometimes the flexibility to give an outstanding individual a slightly lower offer does pay off.
Beyond any professional concern I am going to follow this story with great interest, because 2012 should, (hopefully), be a very important uni application year around here.
