I have to be honest here, until they started getting slated in the US for standing up against Bush and the war I hadn't heard of the Dixie Chicks . So when I saw they had a new album out I purchased it not on any real knowledge of whether they were any good, (although I had got as far as realising that I liked the style of music they played), but rather in admiration for the way they had stood up and taken alot of stick for their views.
V. nice, but what about the music - is Taking the Long Way any good as an CD? Have to say jury is out, it's a grower. Certain songs have an immeadiate something (Not Ready to make Nice, Everybody Knows and Favourite Year particularly) but not one of those cd's you put on and think "wow" about.
It's strength, I think, is in terms of being one of those more intelligent MOR CD's to go on when you want to chill with a glass of something and a book and just be.
