Directing your attention to the weekend papers

Todays Guardian is a slightly better buy than usual. Instead of the paper just being packaging around The Guide (tv listings) before being dispatched to the recycling there were a few articles, supplements of interest.

For those of you with children I direct you to the "What to do with Kids" special family supplement. In addition to giving an insight into how the left leaning middle classes keep their children amused during the long summer months it actually has some good ideas and details of interesting places to visit (which don't all have to cost an arm and a leg).

For those of you with an interest in religion there is a very thought provoking article by Karen Armstrong on <a href= "Fundamentalism" . Armstrong is a renowned scholar and expert in this area and so rather than being an article which feeds into the secular ideology of the Guardian it is actually an intelligent article which is informative and stimulating whether you are of a faith or not. The message within it is clear and I think useful for Christians to take on board aswell about their own religion, moderate conservatives / evangelicals cannot and should not be held responsible for the actions of the fundamentalists anymore than liberals can be.

Finally there is an interesting article in the Work supplement regarding a debate which is raging in France regarding Sunday trading . I don't know about you but despite knowing of their Catholic heritage I assume France to be a highly secular country (what with the hoo har over the wearing of religious dress in schools & stuff). So I was really surprised to see that our Sunday trading laws our way ahead of theirs, also whilst so much of the debate here was seen to be framed around "Keep Sunday Special" (although there was also clear trade union imput from USDAW, etc) the focus there seems to be very much more worker led.
