Folk real life

I'm sitting in an internet cafe in the middle of Cambridge Folk Festival, where I have been having a wonderful time. For obvious reasons this post won't contain the links, but I might fill them in when home.

On Friday evening I really enjoyed Austrailian band The Waifs, who had a slightly jazz feel before jumping about alot to the Peatbog Faries. Then I listened to Billy Bragg who played an even more cracking set than at Greenbelt last year, if that is possible. The Levellers played a decidedly average set - until they hit Dirty Davey at which point it improved considerably.

Yesterday Beoga were good Irish folk and Eric Bibb was brilliant blues. Martha Wainwright was naff and this was further highlighted when one contrasted her to the outstanding k.d. lang who played one of the most cracking sets I've ever seen at a festival. The Imagined Village were ok, but somehow less awe inspiring than I kind of expected.

Still, as the t-shirts say it's all basically been "Cool as Folk".
