Today the church really was a community working together, as a team, to celebrate and welcome the minister and his family into our church and into his new job.Our new minister had his induction service & I have to say it put a slightly different slant on giving somebody a warm welcome. It was baking and so around the church the key use of the orders of service was not to keep everybody in the right place, responding in the right time, but rather to provide them with an appropriate instrument to fan themselves.
The induction itself was a classic affair, where the church really pulled together to provide a good spread and a fine welcome to visitors. Infact it was one of those days where there was so much to be done that everybody was able to contribute in some way & feel involved, which was cool.
I sometimes wish there were more days like that because there are occassions in church where if you don't have the time / giftings to have a recognised role (like Sunday School Teacher, steward, etc, etc) you can feel like a bit of a leech, just taking without the opportunity to properly give back (or perhaps that is just me).
