I actually did v. little music @ Greenbelt this year, but the key exception to that was Martyn Joseph who did a storming solo set on Friday night & an excellent set with the equally wonderful poet Stewart Henderson on Monday.
In relation to Friday nights set though it is interesting to note that 30 years after the famous Sex Pistols / Grundy incident, in a world where f**k is a pretty standard part of the vocabulary for alot of people it still has the power to shock sometimes. On Friday Martyn Joseph managed to show how the occassional cuss can have a special power if it is reserved for special, unexpected situations.
For those who weren't at Greenbelt he sang a verse related to Pat Robinson (the right wing "evangelist") and his advocation of the assination of some left leaning Latin American politician. The words went something like (& I've probably got it wrong) "Robinson what you gonna do when you get to heaven if you meet God and he looks at you and says f**k you?" The Friday set was rounded off by an almost anthemic "Liberal Backslider".
