Fiction isn't as wierd as it used to be

I'm currently reading JPod by Douglas Coupland and am struck by how unwierd this black comedy feels, despite it's exaggerated storyline.

Somehow at the moment all the wierd stuff in it seems like standard life and quite feesible despite the fact I don't know anybody who matches the characters in the book. Know I'm only currently only just over half way through but it's the sort of book where it actually make sense if I do the review now (partly incase the 2nd half doesn't match the first).

On the basis of what I've read so far it is Coupland's finest work to date. Is completely ironic and a wonderful comedy despite being bleak to say the least. With the cultural references and jokes relating to contempory culture & 80's and 90's culture which are interspersed throughout the book I have to say this is one of those books which you'll either get or you won't, there will be no inbetween possible. Personally, as a 30 something who spends way too much time interacting with a machine I get it & I'm guessing if you're reading this wiblog in the first place so will you.

My only gripe is the size. It is oversized & that's a pain when you're lugging it about each day, still as I say worth doing to get from the beginning to the end quicker.
