Today I got a mailing from Care for the Family which made me smile and wince in equal measure.
It made me smile because it put me in the "young category" being a thirty something who is still under the magical 35. Yet it also made me wince because yet again it put me in the category of "the other" in need of understanding and support. In fact as an organisation seeking to support "single parents" they do exactly the same thing. That said they are doing far more than most other Christian organisations in this area and so I'm not knocking it.
Reading through their Partners news though I have come to the conclusion that as one of their supporters I should be in my mid-50's, happily married, with 2 or 3 kids and possibly grandchild(ren) and be able to apply perfect make up, have excellent hair, donating from an income that blokey has gained through a career with a nation or multi-national finance or legal company and be an awfully smiley Christian. (Ok perhaps a tad exaggeration, but ......). As it is I happen to be the opposite in almost every area (although 70% of the time I would say that I have ok hair).
Still to be fair they are seeking to address this, I think (aswell as work out how they can maximise their income from the up and coming generation as their existing main donor base start to retire and have less disposable income) with a survey amongst 20-35 year olds. I was going to link but a huge message is included in the page address instructing me not to.
