Not sure what is going on, Novemeber seems to have gone missing and link to diagram for the dna thing went so have decided to start November again by starting a series on books, films, music, events and people that have shaped my life.
I'm going to start with a film & I'm sure regular readers know what it is before I even say, because it is my favourite which I refer to every so often - Fever Pitch.
The character Colin Firth plays is, to a certain extent, the teacher I want to be. He lacks ambition & just wants to teach the kids because he enjoys it. He can't be doing with all the nonsense which accompanies the job, but really cares for his students and goes out of his way to be there for them. He isn't interested in money, as long as he can cover his season ticket, buy a bit of music and pay his rent each month. Worringly I think I am more like Ruth Gemmells character - with her files and lesson plans, but as I say my goal is to be like the Firth character.
I think that is why the film sticks with me and I can watch it time and time again.
