Better than your usual reality TV

Last night Channel Four gave us one of their better TV shows, The Secret Millionaire where seriously rich philanthropist gets put into poor community for 2 weeks to decide where to donate some cash to. Facinating to watch, as much as anything because it showed how the church is a decent organisation and how asylum seekers are good hardworking people who simply aren't allowed to work when they arrive.

In the end the bloke who could easily be stereotyped by the phrase "Telegraph reader" gave a substantial donation to a centre helping asylum seekers, a wad to a hard working couple who had no chance of getting on the property ladder and a job to a young refugee who had been granted leave to stay but had been turned down at numerous job interviews, it would seem, due to the colour of his skin - nationality status. The bloke who got the job then became a noticeable minority in a mainly white area.

So all in all a good programme which contained more than just a smidgen of interesting, relevent social comment. Will be interesting to see if the rest of the series is as good.
