This evening I went to a medievil hospital building to see an exhibition of work by Fine Art students fromKIAD in Canterbury. As with shows of this kind there was a range of work on display, of varying quality and appealing to a range of tates. The theme of the show was "Echoes" of the past and present.
My favourite piece was one by an artist called Sharon Crawford (I think) who had produced a piece looking which incorporated social history into art. The blurb says she was exploring: "Walking towards salvation, happiness and freedom. Leaving your guilt, sorrow and past behind with your footprints".
I was also struck by Drew Ivory's "The Ghost of Christmas Past" which explored the question "Has the spirit of Christmas become a bill-board over which commerce pastes a fresh fly poster each year? Do traces of the true Christmas still remain? Or have they been consumed by the thick glue of consumerism?
All in all not a bad evening out.
