Contempory issues

One of the things that I find difficult about the whole evo world is the way that certain views appear to be put forward as held certainties. However, when you talk to people individually many of them admit that the issues are actually so complicated that they are not sure what they think. On the other hand sometimes they appear so convinced of the truth of some of the more controversial views that they own these as their own, without realising that people are actually involved - not just abstract ideas.

As somebody who has grown up in a world where difference has been celebrated and "the other" has been acknowledged as just different I find all this quite difficult. So for example the ongoing debates about the place of women and homosexuality are not only quite disturbing at points, but also quite mind blowing in terms of their ongoing nature. After all most of the rest of the world we inhabit settled all of these issues years ago.
