(Un)common sense

Amongst my recent bargain £1 buys from the SPCK was Overcoming Loneliness and Making Friends by Marianna Csoti. Now at this point please don't get the impression that the person behind this computer is a tank top recluse, I'm not.

I got the book because at times I struggle to get out of my own little comfort zone and for various reasons sometimes prefer to do "busy" than "people". I was interested in finding out a little more about what causes shyness and getting a few strategies to overcome it. Well, this book has kind of helped - in terms of confirming my personality type (ie I am shy and my tendancies to retreat in to work or study are evidence - apparently). Anyway, what got me about this book was it would open a topic and then a paragraph later move on.

Yes there is lots of common sense stuff in here, which might be kind of helpful, but generally it's too brief. However, as an entry into the subject it's not a bad read and I'd also recommend it if you want a bit of confirmation that actually you're quite normal (in a wierd kind of way) because that is what this book spends most of it's time doing - confirming that at different points and in different situations most of us at some time or other will experience lonliness.
