Recently I was talking about the tensions of inhabiting an evangelical environment without being much of an evangelical and the tension that arose between being part of that environment and part of the world. Well I realise that I only looked at one side of the coin.
There is tension on the other side aswell though, because people think they have a knowledge of what an evangelical is, but normally don't. Their picture normally fits a hardline fundamentalist or member of the Plymouth Brethren. Therefore, they often have misconceptions which have to be overcome, and prejudices which are to a certain extent inaccurate.
I wish that people could see that Christians are actually normal, but on some things may have a slightly different opinion to alot of other people. It is that slightly different opinion that sometimes makes us seem flaky, but really we're not - (or not that much anyway).
