This weeks bargain book review is The Out of Bounds Church by Steve Taylor, aka Emergent Kiwi . Yes I know it's been out 2 years, but hey I'm an old fashioned girl who takes a while to join the conversation ;)
It's one of those books all about "emerging church" which has some interesting themes and makes general sense up to a point. It's quite a light weight book which is a plus point and set out in a user friendly way another plus point.
It has an interesting discussion of festival spirituality which is useful, but only looks at the "established Christian" way of doing festival spirituality. An investigation of the activities of groups such as Eden People who do festival spirituality within secular festivals would have been useful, but this was just a set of international snapshots. Also I think Taylor takes the metephor of DJ an ickle too far.
All in all it's worth reading, if only to understand the interaction between community arts and the church that seems currently to be in vogue.
