Level playing fields and increased debts

As a teacher of students on level 3 courses in FE, including a number over 19, I find this BBC article interesting. I support the idea of adult learners in FE being given a level playing field.

However, I don't support is the idea they should be paying fees in the first place for their courses. As the aim for a vast number of adult returners doing level 3 courses is to then go onto university the level of debt involved by the time they finished their studies would be astronomical.

Perhaps the best idea would to be go back to valuing education as a right and way to a more civilised society, rather than simply as another commodity to be bought only by those who can afford it.
