Greenbelt - The First Check In

I'm sitting here in the internet cafe, feeling slightly worn out and having a day or so to go.

It's been a very sociable festival, Wib Meet, Ship Meets; various catching up to say hi type things. Met lots of lovely people, and realising how blessed I am to be part of these networks - full of gorgeous people.

In terms of what I've been to, somehow managed to not catch any music so far. However talks wise it's been cool.

Truth Sign led a meditation last night which was just what I needed. It was about darkness and hope and within it contained the story of Hagar. With all the madness (and blessing) which is my life now it does me good to stop and acknowledge, remember the journey I've been on - a journey which Hagar helps me remember. This remembering the whole story, not just the more fluffy one which has emerged over the last 5 years or so is something I tend not to do .....but which is healthy. Sometimes it is good to look back from where you are now and see how far God has travelled with you.

Brian McLaren did a talk yesterday on simplifing prayer which was ok; and one on being a Christian in contemporary culture today and the link to post-colonialism which was rather good. His take on how we have reached "post-modern" thought within society and the challenge it gives to the church was thought provoking to say the least.

I've also done communion a couple of times this weekend. Firstly with the Outerspace guys last night, which was moving to say the least. It was quite "high" church, being complete with priest in posh vestments, and involved a few interesting logistics as 150(ish) of us were packed into quite a small room, and I think it was the straightforwardness of it in the setting which got me.

Today it was the Greenbelt main communion which was again quite straightforward and very "normal" this year. It was on the subject of the rising sun and so ofcourse it rained. Still there was something v. special about it particlularly as I shared it with our church group and well..........next week I move. It's also Third Party and her friends b'day today so we did cake with our communion.

I've done a few other things, Frank Schaeffer, Lucy Winkett and a film amongst others. However they can wait and Joel Edwards........well pleasantly surprising but talking about his seminar on contemporary evangelicalism will be an entry on it's own.

So all in all, I'm glad I don't have a tent that leaks, I'm glad it wasn't raining the night I got totally lost on the way back to the tent and I'm enjoying some excellent company.
