Football's Coming Home (Hopefully)

Back in the day when it seemed like one used a psydenomn rather than a real name I chose Tractor Girl because of my support for Ipswich Town Football Club. I still have Tractor Boy and Tractor Girl (2 ITFC rag dolls) by the bed. These days just as using Tractor Girl rather than Sally Rush at times has become problematic (particularly when meeting people who are familiar with the blog title/name but not my own) so has being a Town fan. As I write we sit firmly rooted at the foot of the Championship.

My own belief is that a major problem has been the club in recent years has moved away from 'the Ipswich way of doing things'. By this I mean there was a cetain Ipswich style and system (including a really strong youth policy) which saw us through. This included being a fairly clean team (apart from when we were playing a certain local team who number Stephen Fry and Delia Smith amongst their supporters). It all seemed to change when Jim Magilton had the knife put in his back and the board bought in Roy Keane. To my mind Keane was the biggest mistake the club has made in recent years.

All this is set to change  as yesterday it was announced that Mick McCarthy is going to be the new ITFC manager. I hope and believe we are about to enter a new era where the Ipswich way of doing things will once more be in assendance. I hope this will get us out of the relegation zone and see us climbing the table. Realistically I don't see Mick McCarthy ever getting us back to the glory days of the late 1970's and early 1980's but I do see him getting us back to where we were around 2000 when we all headed off to Wembley and saw Ipswich promoted (although I think that will be next season rather than this).

Hopefully we'll be able to getting back to  Singing the Blues soon.
