So blogging may or may not get less frequent than it has been during November. I'm getting involved in NaNoWriMo this year. For those who aren't familiar with this the idea is that you write 50,000 words in a month and have a first draft of something by the end of it. I know a number of others including Surfing have done this in the past and enjoyed it and so this year I'm giving it a go.

As some of you may be aware I've started writing the long talked about book on single parenting which is going to be informed by my research findings but I'm finding it difficult to get out of an academic style of writing and soften it up. That's one of the key reasons I'm doing NaNoWriMo I want to be able to write in a readable way that isn't academic and perhaps be able to weave strands of narrative together with the more factual within my book.

So what's the novel going to be about? Well, because I want it to support rather than hinder the main project I'm working on I'm going to be writing a novel which contemporises the Hagar and Ishmael story and brings in elements of my own single parent experience. In order to do this some aspects of the narrative found in the bible are going to change but I hope the overall plot of the Genesis story will still be recognisable as the foundation of my novel which has the working title of After Abraham.

If anybody has any tips to share as I embark on with this NaNoWriMo adventure please feel free to share in the comments section.
