Not perfect, but still standing (just)

I've been reading back on my recent blog entries and thought enough moaning; if the American is talking from outside your experience about parenting and you want something more earthy and English start blogging some of the stuff that works for you.

First off, writing the above means that whilst I do spend long periods of time tearing my hair out, drinking wine to wind down after yet another battle, or scoffing chocolate to keep my energy levels at a high enough level to get through the next encounter I also acknowledge that I am doing some things right as a parent.

From this we have our first bit of wisdom - give yourself a break and reflect on the fact that whilst it may be hard work you are not a total failiure at being a parent. There will be some things that you are doing right, which it might be useful to share with others, there will be other things which you are doing ok but could be doing better on and there are some areas that are going so badly they will leave you rocking in the corner with the wine and chocolate and a fist full of tissues. This is all normal, and part of being a parent, particularly of one of those creatures we label teenagers.
