The mist was thick, so thick you couldn't see the sea until you had gotten to the sea wall. There was no sun rise this morning, but in this day and age we knew it was meant to rise at 6:22 & so we were there, looking to the east seeing no more than a few feet in front of ourselves.
I pulled out a bible, turned to Luke 23 and 24 and read the story; Jesus ressurection and his appearance to the women in the garden. He came and first gave the wonderful, yet confuddling news to these women who had faithfully followed him from Galilee. The angles in the garden recognised that as these women had attended to the needs of the male community of disciples they had also recieved the teaching & so told them to think back and remember what He had said whilst still in Galilee. Then I read as it began to somehow dawn, the reality they could not yet fully comprehend; they ran to tell the men and were dismissed by this group of disciples as mere women telling what appeared to be an idle tale. Then reading on; how Peter who desperately wanted it to be true (or had learnt from the master how to truly respect women?) had ran to check and discovered it was true and no idle tale.
After that I threw a few stones into the sea, praying thanking God, primarily for the ressurection (which I'm not sure I understand any more than the women then) but also for the fact that through His choice of events He was able to underline the equal value of women in the sub-text. Then after a walk, still through the sea mist Third Party (who was not as enthusiastic as myself about remembering) and I arrived at the "sun rise" service; 40 minutes after we arrived on the beach when the sun had been supposed to rise. We stood and prayed and sang and to a certain extent celebrated.
So there we are Happy Easter! Christ has risen!
