Hope Springs

Been to see Hope Springs a film which has Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as a couple whose marriage is facing problems and who are looking for a solution. This film centres around their intensive visit to a marriage counsellor.

The film makes some interesting points about what intimacy is and the differing needs people have. Whilst it does to some extent focus on the issue of physical intimacy it goes beyond this into what makes a couple intimate and what makes them little more than housemates.

One of the most interesting aspects of watching the film for me was the way that it had Streep and Jones playing people who were naturally around their own ages and had them looking somewhat more natural than other films. There was something about it all which was encouraging. There were several scenes where you knew that yes they were made up but you could their natural lines had neither been added to or removed.

Another encouraging thing about the film was the way that it was realistic about the fact relationships aren't always easy but often they can often work if people are willing to take risks as well as improve their communication and be willing to make changes themselves as well as expecting the other person to.

So in short I recommend the film on the basis it was believable. The fact the casting had been outstanding also helped.
