Creamfields and Greenbelt - Not A Time for Gloating

Twitter alerted me to the fact Creamfields had ended up being a victim of the weather whilst Greenbelt survived over the weekend. Having looked at the Creamfields website to check the story I want to be a voice saying two things:

1) This is not a time for Greenbelters to engage in smugness / bad taste gloating at the expense of those who were at Creamfields. Greenbelt had it bad and had its own victims as posts like this one from our own librarianĀ explain, but it appears overallĀ the Creamfields site had it even worse in places, (looking at the pictures).

2) Those who were having to make the hard calls on health and safety at events this weekend, as well as at others this summer which have been impacted by the weather, deserve huge recognition as do the volunteers who were involved in implementing those decisions/ helping people on the ground. One can only imagine some of the discussions which must have been going on behind closed doors at Greenbelt and Creamfields this weekend and the wisdom which was required.

So thanks to all of those on both sites who were involved in making the hard calls and supporting festival goers by making the right decisions for the conditions and contexts they faced.
