It's a farce

Whilst the title may seem like I'm about to go off on another one about the latest bout of evangelical infighting it's not that - I'll leave Dave to deal with that one. Rather I have taken Third Party off to the theatre again, tonight we went to see Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis , which is a farce in the true sense of the word.

An interesting and very funny play which in it's own way was as disturbing as it was hilarious. To give you a flavour the play contains: 1 repressed Irish cleaner with OCD, 1 lapsed Jewish dry cleaner who has a passion for dressing up in womens clothes and as such goes to a dominatrix, 1 prostitute / dominatrix who is also the mother of a daughter with learning difficulties and employer of the Irish cleaner, 1 daughter with learning difficulties, 1 other daughter who was messed up by one of her mothers clients (not the Jewish dry cleaner) and a gay Chinese Elvis (well actually he's Vietnamese, but gets called Chinese).

The very dodgy northern accents, and Maureen Lipman's best impression of Mrs Doyle (i.e. dotty Irish cleaner) with a splattering of dodgy (in the that was so bad it was good sense) jokes meant that the heavier topics within the play were dealt with in a way which wasn't too much hard work and the fairy tale ending was fun, (although as Third Party pointed out completely unbelieveable).
