There was a time when being a candidate was a safe exercise, which involved no effort and was a primarily an exercise in enabling people to exercise their democratic right to vote for the party of their choice without putting yourself at risk of being elected - if you chose to volunteer to stand in a ward which was a "safe seat" for the other party.
Unfortunately as the elections come closer I am increasingly worried that this time I am actually almost a proper candidate.
Evidence that this time may be different:
1. I am off out (again) in a moment delivering literature to potential voters
2. A friend who discovered I was standing when they completed their postal vote was "kind" enough to decide to pray for this candidate in church on Sunday morning when asked to pray for the community and those involved in it - since then I have had people affirming me, all rather wierd
4. The definition of a "safe seat" is not quite the same in area with strong local representation as it has been in the other areas I have lived and stood as a "paper" candidate.
This is not normal behaviour, people aren't supposed to be interested in politics, although I am glad they are because I think democracy is something everybody should be actively involved in.
Anyway off to lose a few more pounds (hopefully) as I pound the pavements, and a reminder for those of you with postal votes to send them off if you haven't already,
