Regular readers will know that I've mentioned a few times on this blog that MKPride - Milton Keynes first LGBTQ Inclusion and Awareness event is happening this Saturday (11th) from 11am - 7pm at Campbell Park. It's going to be a real family friendly event where EVERYBODY (including straight people) will be more than welcome to come and enjoy themselves for a long or short while.

The tag line that's been put on the MKPride website is "inclusion without judgement" and that's the key to the whole thing.

I'm excited about the event for a range of reasons:

Firstly, I've seen the work that the people running this CIC (Community Interest Company) have put into getting the event together. They have had to do this as well as working full time and it has been a real labour of love and care for the community they are part of. I hadn't come across CIC's before but this really has been the embodiment of what one is. It has been formed at personal cost for community benefit.

Secondly, I've seen the way that this event - together with some other stuff going on in the city has been able to help build community and develop understanding between people.

Thirdly, I am excited because I always like a good party, celebration or festival and I know this is set up to be an excellent one. It is catering for everybody - they'll be kids stuff, a dog show, entertainment, a bar, stalls and space to just sit and chill with friends.

Finally, I'm excited because the Venture:MK  faith tent a group of us have been putting together with will finally become a reality. Central to what we're doing is a "15 minute retreat" where people will be able to come and just chill - going through four stages. It's designed with people of all faiths and none in mind and will just give people the opportunity to come along and be, connecting with God/ spirituality however they understand that idea. If you're coming along on the day it would be great if you could just pop in and say hi to us. We'll be with the other stalls and traders.
