Extremism or part of our culture?

Third Party has been accused by the school of an act of extremism which is not part of our culture. Her crime? Wearing her hair in too many plats.

Apparently she has been told her that her chosen hairstyle (lots of ickle plats) is an extreme hairstyle and was forced to take it out today. When her friend pointed out that some members of the school, by virtue of their ethnicity were allowed similar hairstyles she was told Third Party wasn't allowed it because it wasn't part of her culture.

Now the cultural argument might have an ickle more weight if it weren't for the fact that Third Party spends her summers as part of the festie community and so actually it is a hairstyle which could be considered part of her culture. Next half term when she heads off to Glasto for a week it will be hightly practical. Also that the school can presume to define my what is and isn't part of my daughters culture simply on the basis she is a white, middle class and English is something I find deeply offensive.

In addition I have to say that it is actually quite a tidy style which really suits her.
