Looking into nothingness?

Every so often you look at something and think that's not quite right but you struggle to get your head around why. I'm currently doing that with a new blogg I've started reading, (but which I'm not going to link to for the moment).

In my quest to work out the answer I have been looking more at the bloggs I read and their backgrounds, layout and structure. Now, bloggs are individual and so they all differ in this, often according to their purpose authors technical ability and how long they have been evolving. Generally though there are some key things.

Firstly the links or profiles column on the left (and often also on the right) is relatively thin and the text is quite centred. Sometimes a margin is used (eg A Sideways Glance ), sometimes the text spreads across the page more but from a thin column (eg Faith in Society), sometimes a background is used and the text is centred into the centre that way (eg Deep Thought ), sometimes a colourful background is used (e.g.Just Fine and Dandy ) and sometimes it's just plain white (eg Good in Parts ). Whichever, the general aim is to aid communication.

Also in terms of colours used in addition to white and grey/ black pastel colours seem quite popular.

As for style that seems to depend upon their purpose and the audience they are intended to be sharing information with. The intellectual ones are clearly that and share indepth information in the style of a uni refectory (eg Sean the Baptist ) others are more relaxed, sharing deep information in an almost grandfatherly way (eg The Connexion ). All of them in their own way tend to convey a bit of an armchair style.

So they are all different.

I haven't explored many which are intended for teaching, so they may be different. Whatever though, this is an evolving tool of communication and it is facinating to see how everybody puts their own stamp on their blog.
