I will not be signing the Equal Love petition, although I strongly support the ideal of opposite sex civil partnerships being available to all and these including ALL of the rights associated with marriage for both gay and straight couples. Similarly I will not be signing Coalition4Marriage petition either even though I think that the term "marriage" has a specific gendered meaning in our society.
I urge you not to support either of these campaigns which are causing so much harm by their polarisation of the issues involved.
Personally I want us all to put on the kettle and chat to each other about why we feel as we do. We might all get a bit further without all the pain and bitterness involved. Oh and before anybody says I don't understand what is at stake I do and I not only know but am personally impacted.
One side is currently demonising Christians and the other side is promoting a form of hetrosexism which is at times tipping over into homophobia. We need people to stand up, sit proudly on the fence and promote an alternative view.
