Heavy feminism, interesting theology

This weeks commuter read may well last me until the end of this academic year; it's not my usual lightweight read. At the moment I'm ploughing my way through Bitch by Elizabeth Wurtzel.

On one side it's 400 pages of third wave feminist theory smacking you in the face. On another it's a constant bombardment of cultural references and on yet another it is a book of deep theology - taking you where you don't normally think of going. Most of all though it's a up front voicing of stuff that needs saying but most of us politely ignore. As such I am finding it really hard going to get through. I would suggest if you attempt this one you allow yourself plenty of time and go at it in bite size chunks.

The chapter of theology looks at the book of Judges and the story of Delilah and Samson in particular. It's in your face stuff but well worth wrestling with, if only to make you think outside the standard comfy box this tale is normally placed in.
