Half Century of Satire

The journey back to MK afforded me the opportunity to pop into the V&A again this morning - and a chance to catch the Private Eye at 50 Exhibition.

Wandering around an exhibition like thisĀ is often a bit wierd and today was no exception. There is this thing that can happen in galleries that people stop laughing at v. funny material just because they are in an apparently special environment. I am not one of those people - if something is funny I will chuckle at it and so as I wandered around the two rooms I was often giggling out loud. There was a guy there who had been smiling who also started laughing out loud when he heard me doing so - it was almost like my breaking with what he percieved as convention gave him permission to also. I found this awfully sad - laughter is something that should not be supressed just because you are in a library or a gallery or church in my opinion, unless you are about to laugh at somebody elses misfortune.

Personally the bits that made me laugh most were the cartoons and the enlarged front pages.
