Part-time protesting; tensions and reality

The Daily Mail has had an article condeming the fact protesters are part time. Whilst I dispute some of their figures they do have a point. However, there are good reasons why apart from the hardcore many people are coming and going from the Occupy sites. Firstly there is the need for may of us to go to paid work or other voluntary groups we are part of some of the time.

Secondly, and more importantly is the need to keep sane. At Occupy Newcastle there is a constant need to be working in public relations, team working, negotiating security issues and so on...all with a bunch of different people. Part of it has been working with the homeless - something which has been a steep learning curve. In situations like that people need a break sometimes. Also there are our family members to consider.

Another reality is that what is happening also depends on what resources we have available and wider things going on. The Occupy Newcastle website has a wish list and other information to help.
