Ok, I was going to rant on about a simple ickle statement Alistair Darling (the chancellor) made yesterday in his speech to the TUC which got me seeing red. Statement was about New Labours record on helping "single parents and the disabled into work", and button pushed was the one which saw myself being labelled as being part of a group who were less than able to help ourselves.
Anyway the rant has been avoided. Firstly by reading my e-mail and seeing that Greenbelt are thinking, at some point in the future of expanding into Scotland in order to address the frustrations of Scottish festival goers whose school holidays don't fit in with the English holiday calander. Relevent bit of Greenbelt mailing says:
" Greenbelt Scotland
You might have missed the informal session at the Festival but we're investigating the possibility of a Scottish version of Greenbelt. Many Scots don't come to the Festival because there is no August Bank Holiday and they don't want to take their children out of school. There are no definite plans, but there was enough enthusiasm from the session to want to take a further look with anyone who might be interested in getting involved in supporting, planning, volunteering or even just attending a Greenbelt Scotland*.
You don't need to be Scottish some at the initial meeting came from the north of England, it might also appeal to the Irish to come across the water. If you are interested and would like to be kept informed of any plans, send an email to greenbeltscotland@greenbelt.org.uk so that we can keep in touch. Another meeting is planned in the Autumn somewhere in middle Scotland--we'll keep you posted.
* If something happens it won't be in 2009 and it won't be in August "
The other thing that has diverted me from my rant is the kind link to this site given by Stumpys Stuttering Stumblings . He seems to be an ickle obsessed with a happening to Greenbelt, but hey as obsessions go I can think of worse. Worth a read if you are interested in finding out an ickle more about the festival.
