Dale Farm - what ever the in's and out's the fact is the planning laws are not being equally applied and there is servere discrimination in this country against the traveller community. Also, and more importantly these people are being offered only sub-standard housing (the sort this country offers the homeless) which is not culturally appropriate. Praying for forgiveness for my own reinforcement of stereotypes and prejudice against people and for the residents. Also praying for the council and all those involved.
The Methodist Church in Fiji who are suffering under extreme persecution at the moment. Thanking God for the freedom we have to worship and for the church in that country, not just the Methodists. Also praying for other groups who are suffering repression there. Finally praying for the government there.
The people of Yemen paticularly those who have been bereaved or injured in the recent protests and government actions. Praying forgiveness for when we ignore these people or think less of them because they don't live in the developed world. Praying for healing and peace for that land. Finally praying for the government there.
Final bit of my prayer is a prayer that I may not be blinded by "self-righteousness" and a feeling that I am more civillised or better than others and that I may not give in to the sin of apathy or caring fatigue. Praying I may never fail to see the humanity of the council officials, law enforcement officers and governments committing these attrocities and breaches of human rights - they are made in your image too Lord.
Lord in your mercy hear my prayers of concern today.
Amen
