There was a time when you would stumble into a venue at a festival and discover something wonderful that you'd never come across before then have to remember where you were the night before to find them in the programme the next morning. Times have changed though. Now you can stumble around in your own front room and plan who you want to be suprised by. This was the game Third Party and I were playing last night as we looked at the Greenbelt music line up in one tab with You Tube open in another.
Grace Petrie is somebody I'd not heard of before but is now yet another reason I don't intend budging from Mainstage on Friday night - if you like English political urban folk this is pretty much a dream line up (besides Petrie the page shows that Martyn Joseph, Show of Hands and Billy Bragg are all on that night - oh and Bob Harris is comparing).
Band of Hope are another folky type who look worth investigating as are Harry Bird and the Rubber Wellies - worth seeing just for the name me thinks.
We looked up Luke Jackson simply because he was a Canterbury lad, but when we heard him we were a little blown away. He is definately on the list of stuff Third Party and I are tipping as worth investigating.
Our fave indie tip for the festival are Malokai who seemed just a little bit good even if they do look like twazzocks on their website.
Somebody I've not heard of but Third Party already rates is Beth Rowley.
If you're bored prior to the festival would really recommend this game - it's fun to play and may mean that once the listings guide comes out you can plan your festival a little better; trying some stuff you'd perhaps otherwise not think of going to.
