Currently on a bit of a tour of the UK for various stuff. Today I found myself in Northampton, the town I did my undergrad degree in. After the purpose of my trip was complete I decided to see if a Christian bookshop I was familiar with - the Manna House - was still there. This was the place I discovered a book that changed my life in many ways, "What's Right With Feminism" by Elaine Storkey - it introduced me to Christian Feminism. So anyway, as I say I revisited the place today.
It now has a small second hand book section as well, with ridiculously low prices. I picked up a copy of Gustavo Gutierrez's A Theology of Liberation for £2. As I was flicking through I noted a previous owner had made some comments within the margins and on page 72 there was an interesting one, "Onions!". No idea what this meant, but think it may have been an exclamation that was used instead of a profanity regarding what Gutierrez was saying when he was quoting to Schillebeeckx. Looking forward to reading the text.
Also picked up an interesting 50p volume by John de Gruchy of prayers, meditations and readings from South Africa called Cry Justice! which describes itself as follows:
"This collection reflects the spirituality of the Christian struggle against the heresy of aparthied and its social manifestations."
