Today pretty much completes a circle of firsts: the first Christmas, Easter and birthday, the first school report, the first set of exam results, and today the first year since mum died. So today is designated a day for me to remember my mum .
However, there will be no special flowers today, or artificially created sentimentality. Yes I will remember, but in the way I have remembered most days over the last year by feeling the loss and then remembering what it is I learnt from her which will help me through, without having her on the end of the phone to ask. I have marked it by submitting my dis in memory of her, which I feel is more appropriate.
I have learnt that the true legacy a person leaves is not material, but rather the way their spirit and values are lived out in those they leave behind.
