Hippy Christian Parent's Guide to the End of Summer

If I lived in the world of Enid Blyton, C S Lewis or even J K Rowling I wouldn't have spent this week indulging in some kind of culture explosion. Rather I would have put together a set of lists and engaged in a co-ordinated attack on the high street, starting at Millets and ending at Clarks ; taking in a range of other well known stores in between.

Back in the real world, I bid a fond farewell to my friend and packed Third Party off to do a bit more festivating with her grandfather and woke up to the fact I am hurtling headlong towards the end of summer.

For this average hippy Christian parent tumbling through the last couple of weeks in August involves:
1. Finding out exactly when daughter goes back to school and having established that Clean Slate Clothing don't do fair trade uniform in her size, buying a full set of school uniform which not only fits but also meets the requirements set down by the junior fashion police.

2. Working out who I am going to try and meet up with at Greenbelt and ensuring I have obtained the appropriate mobile numbers to save into my phone.

3. Ensuring the phone is charged up ready to go.

4. Checking I have a couple of tents which don't leak and enough sleeping bags and "stuff" for myself and the two teenagers I'll have with me. "Stuff" includes food, drink and cash for the bookshop.

5. Downloading the permission forms for The Mix and ensuring Third Party friend's mum gets the relevant bits signed.

6. Sorting out a suitable cake to transport to a field in Cheltenham so a certain young lady can celebrate losing the w in tweenager when she arrives.

7. Get wine sorted to celebrate or drown my sorrows, according to how my students have done in their exams this year (1 large bottle for AS / A Level day, and small bottle for GCSE day).

8. Look up Dave Walker's Guide to Greenbelt to remind me of all the things I know I should do, but somehow always forget to.

9. Type up a basic list of activities on the Wibsite so any "proper grown ups" who happen to be reading can remind me of what I've forgotten.
