Imagine it, a book on parenting written by a well known Christian which actually acknowledges that you may find hash in your kids bedroom and if you do it's a tad worrying but it doesn't necessarily mean you're dealing with a junkie - they might just be experimenting. A book which tells parents to get a life & let their kids have some space. Basically a book which is more Osbornes than Waltons in it's outlook.
Well Teenagers What every parent has to know by Rob Parsons is basically that book. Rob Parsons is a well known Christian speaker but he has enough life and professional experience to make it a book that parents of real kids will be likely to find kind of useful.
The usefulness doesn't come from the advice on what to do with your teenager when they are doing x, y or z (it's really lite in that department). Rather where this book scores in making you realise that what you are going through is quite normal (generally, although I know there can be huge exceptions to the rule) and both kids and parents have been known to survive it. It also gives some scientific reasoning as well as pop sociology and psychology on why your ickle darling has suddenly turned into something with more attitude than Ann Widdecombe having a hissy fit.
So all in all very readable and reassuring, even if it's not really too much help on what to actually do when the s**t hits the fan.
