So The Times is celebrating Bob Dylan's 70th b'day today with a bunch of Times writers choosing the Dylan songs that are meaningful to them. So I'm going to do the same and am inviting you to use the comments on here or your own blogs to do the same.

For me it's Bob Dylan's 115th Dream which comes from his Bringing It All Back Home albumn. I like it just because it's fun and it makes you smile even when you are feeling a bit down because of the sheer daftness of some of it. Of course, being Dylan it's not daft, it's actually quite deep saterical social comment. If I had a happy box (a box of things that just make you smile because they do...not because of any memory) it would go in there - on top of the pile.

For actual memories I'd go for With God On Our Side.  It's taken from "The Times are a- Changin' " albumn and is one I remember first hearing when I was a teenage CND freak trying to get my head around being from a radical home and a conservative evangelical church. I guess it asked the questions I couldn't articulate at that time....and is probably why from time to time when I was making bad choices tied up with good intentions of faith I would listen to it.

On a final note I think it's great that Dylan is one of those greats who my dadlistened to on records, (which I borrowed as a teenager);  that I listen to on CD and which Third Party now has on her i-pod. The times may be a-changing but thankfully the music doesn't have to.
