Ok, apologies to those who have already been at it for weeks but today we find ourselves properly plunged into exam season here in Durham. Previously accessible places are now covered in Quiet posters, clusters of people holding last minute notes are being tripped over and on the historic Palace Green getting into the library when it opened at 9 today was like trying to get through the turnstiles at Twickenham on a match day.
At work and home we are also entering the exam period and I find myself surrounded by jittery teenagers, at every corner.
So I thought I would reiterate some basic advice I have found has helped people over the years.
1) If you are able take a long soak in the bath the evening before or on the morning of the exam.
2) Remember to breathe - and build a few minutes "panic time" into your exam timings.
3) Check what colour pen you have to be writing in (normally black) and make sure you have a spare aswell.
4) If you have morning and afternoon exams make sure you eat, (or at very least have a coffee and buscuits), in between.
5) Try and answer every question. The most you can get for nothing written in nothing.
6) Do not - during exam period - get ratted. Exams and hangovers or being "under the influence" do not mix.
7) Parents/ carers make sure you have flexibility built into your time table so you can be or not be around as your child requires.
