Last Wednesday I saw Of Gods and Men. It is a moving and beautiful film which follows the story of a small group of monks in Algeria who have to face that classic question posed by The Clash, "Do I Stay or Do I Go?". This film movingly follows the reasons for that choice and the impact of what they choose. (No more info or it would be a real spoiler). It's in French with sub-titles but if anything it adds to the feel rather than detracting.
The emotions that emerge within the film are ones of hope and sadness. It reflects the reality of life and love (of the agape rather than eros type) and of what family (in the widest sense) is about and the frustration which sometimes emerges aswell as the hope. If you get the chance to watch this, (DVD in the foreign language section of HMV), I'd totally recommend it.
