Well, I resisted for a couple of days, but couldn't resist it. As anybody at yesterdays Wibmeet will be aware my name is Tractor Girl and I am addicted to blogging.
So how's it been. Answer cool. Greenbelt this year is one of those more understated years where it's more about networking and finding out what you end up wandering into than "must see" stuff - with the exception of Peterson Toscano who has been upgraded with an extra show in a larger venue because he is rightly the hit of Greenbelt this year. Was v. glad I'd got into the queue as soon as I noticed it was there (and I think the 7 people who I knew who kind of melted into my space were aswell). The re-education of George W. Bush is a classic piece of social commentary, which is hard hitting and addresses the "W'er" in us all but is also one of the most hilarious things - ever.
Billy Bragg has been my other highlight so far. I have to admit I prefer his earlier stuff to some of his more modern material and so loved the fact he end up playing a sizeable proportion of "Back to Basics" during his mainstage set. By the end when he tried to get through all of "Life's a Riot" as his oncore I really was 13 years old again, only this time I was singing along with several thousand other people in a field, rather than alone in my bedroom. Also saw him at Last Orders and with Martyn Joseph at The Rising, (but missed his seminar talk on national identity).
Worship wise the communion this year was excellent, partly due to it's straightforward less wacky feel. Look out for photos of the balloon release. Hundreds of red balloons being released into a clear blue sky really is a sight to behold.
Unsurprisingly there may well be further reflections to follow, but at the moment this has been my Greenbelt.
