Travelling from no-where-ville on sea to almost-somewhere-ville on sea the change of seasons can be seen in nature, but also through people watching.
Yesterday marked the most dramatic change from summer into autumn. Gone were the holiday makers, with their bulging bags full of beach towels, who'd travelled down from London for a breath of sea air.In their place were the first set of children in sparkling school uniform, often with nervous parents standing behind them. The picture of the parent seeing their offspring off onto bus or train was repeated along my route.
Today will be more of the same as the rest of the local schools go back. To be fair it's a memory I now hold with fondness. I said bye to a young person not a child today as Third Party went out the door, ready for another year with both of us wondering would she be on uniform report by the time she got home. For us this is a year of options, SATs and the teenage angst that year 9 inevitably brings.
